Considering that I am graduating in a few weeks, I have been thinking about the future of this blog. What shall I do with it?
Help me with your opinions and thoughts because I think that this blog has turned out to be a great medium of discussion and interaction among students, faculty and staff.
In addition the Google rank is very good, which makes it quite attractive to the person taking over the blog ;)

Tanvi B Savla, Louise Ralston and Bas van Ulden, Fulltime MBA 2011 students, made it to the second round of Société Générale’s Citizen Act competition. Their “Bank Better” concept received praise from the jury for originality and thoroughness. They now need your help!!!!!!!
The next round is about getting their fellow students involved in their thinking. To accomplish this, they will be maintaining a discussion forum (Blog) for the next three weeks until 12th March, on the topic of “Do people need to be taught how to handle their personal finances?”. The forum (Blog) will feature a different poll each day and the team will be evaluated based on the number of visitors to the blog as well as number of useful comments people make on it. So let’s hear your thoughts here.
Can it be true? I just searched “ESADE MBA” on Google (language set to English) and guess what page just slipped on the bottom of the first page, result 10? My ESADE MBA… wow… cool :) at least it does so on my computer…
Apparently it takes 154 posts and 11,600 clicks to make it to the first page. Interesting!
10.000th view of my blog “My ESADE MBA“*! Who would have guessed that? I am celebrating a little :) Thank you very much for your support and readership!!!
I started to blog about my ESADE experience in Feburary 2009 in the wake of my application for a scholarship. However once the scholarship application was rejected I decided to continue the blogging nevertheless because I enjoyed doing it. (btw. some of those who received the scholarship are blogging on the ESADE blog)
Considering that today I have finally reached the 5-digit-views for MyESADEMBA blog I decided that I would give you some more insights about this blog and ESADE in general through my statistics. The statistics give you a very good overview of what people are interested in and what they like to read about ESADE. Let’s see what we’ve got:
There are tons of more interesting stats such as these but that might be a little too much. What fascinates me most is the interest, almost obsession, in the rankings, comparisons against other schools and interview questions. What I don’t understand is that so many people are obsessed with the rankings and placements of ESADE students but why do I see so few candidates visiting the campus and enquiring about the life as ESADE students? Is that all there is to a school? Visit the campus, speak to the students, attend lectures… Ask me ;) I am looking forward to seeing you all on campus and happy readership :)
After being flooded with online advertising from other MBA schools I thought it would be worthwhile checking out the online advertising of the ESADE MBA.
First of all I am seeing that ESADE is starting with banner advertising as you can see on Business Week. Unfortunately the ad is placed on a quite disadvantageous article, stating that online advertising produces very few clicks, however I am glad to see that ESADE is becoming active. They haven’t taught much about online marketing in Marketing Class but apparently they are starting to do it themselves, which is a good move.
In addition I noticed that the ESADE Marketing team started to buy Google adwords and is promoting the ESADE Marketing Master as you can see hereto below when I searched for ESADE. I left the URL behind the ad so if you want to find out where it leads you click on it.
I am not sure whether it makes a lot of sense to advertise on the keyword “ESADE” as all the search results are direct ESADE links anyway but I am glad to see that ESADE is doing something! Keep it up!! Have you found any other online ads and/or banners of ESADE?
Saurabh Mishra, former president of the ESADE Entrepreneurship Club, just pointed out that Barcelona Radio reported about the Elevator Pitch Contest. To listen to the report click here.
If anybody wants to make a transcript feel free to add it here ;) Did they talk about the three winners and what did they say about the system of mobile payments if mentioned at all?
The competition of LetsBuyIt.com for “the (second) best job in the world” is coming to an end in 3 days. I have previously talked about this competition but to quickly summarise again:

All you have to do is advise, report and blog on the latest fashion trends out there! This is the official description on Monster.com:

Check out some of the application videos because they are extremely well done sometimes!
If you are asking yourself why I am posting this job offer, I do so because I used to work LetsBuyIt.com so I am more than happy to support this company ;) I LOVE it…

There are a few students blogging about the life and studies at ESADE and ESADE has created a short list of them on their blog. Recently my blog has been added to the ESADE blogroll which I am very happy about :) Check out the list of blogs here.
Morgan Witkin’s blog would have to be most famous as it has been quoted in some major journals, such as Times of India and BusinessWeek, but I am working hard on gaining traffic and momentum.
Did you know that ESADE has a MBA Admissions podcast? Find out more here..
Thanks to Donal Q. I just found this little software that generates tag clouds: Wordle.net
Thes are two sample tagclouds for My ESADE MBA. I love it and it is a great software for presentations as we saw today during class for the VW presentation :)
After the financial crisis there are many descriptions about business studies floating around because most of the big business failures where caused by MBA graduates. My favorite one are that MBA stands for “Mediocre But Arrogant” or “Married But Available”. I guess it is important that from time to time you have a good laugh about yourself and I agree that some of the case studies are quite irrelevant for the real business world. The comic artist “Dilbert” created a whole series of comics making fun of MBA students like us and they are hilarious. Check out his blog BEFORE you start your MBA and do it better ;)
As I have mentioned earlier,ESADE is quite active on the web and uses many new social media tools. Have a look here for a list of the tools used by the marketing team, including twitter, facebook, flickr, bookmarks, widgets, etc.
Special mention needs to go to Morgan Witkin who was featured in the ESADE Newsletter in June 2009 for her blog that was cited by Business Week
First person: Experiencing Barcelona
Deciding to pursue an MBA at ESADE Business School was “an evolution from the life I had been living to a completely new existence”. Read Morgan Witkin’s (current ESADE MBA student) account on her experiences living and studying in Barcelona as published in Business Week.
Do you know any other online material about ESADE?
The student association MBASA has set up a Welcoming Committee to make the arrival and transition of the incoming students easier, by providing them with buddies, who are current students. I have been fortunate enough to be selected as member of the Welcoming Committee for the One Year MBA 2010 group and I would like to share some insights with you.
Why participate?
The buddy program provides a great opportunity to get in touch with current students and have some insight information about the upcoming life in Barcelona. It is much easier and comforting to know somebody already locally than heading blindly overseas. The buddy will be able to provide invaluable information about accomodation, transport, social life, academics, weather, etc.
How it works?
The incoming students receive a welcoming email from ESADE introducing the buddy system. If you are interested in having a buddy, who helps you move to Barcelona and get started, you reply to the MBASA Committee. You simply state the basic facts about you like who you are, where you are from, the languages you speak, professional background, date of arrival etc.
At the same time MBASA Welcoming Committee sends an email to the current students and looks for volunteer-buddies. The current students provie similar information, which the committee then records in the database.
Then these profiles will be matched according to numerous variables such as country of origin, languages, professional backgrounds, etc. The profile of the incoming student will then be forwarded to the current student who needs to confirm the willingness to be matched with that particular incoming student. Once the current student agrees, the incoming student will be put in touch with his/her buddy and off they go.
My experience
My personal experience was great and therefore I was very happy to have taken part in the program. Obviously not everybody shows the same level of committment but you have to make the best of it, as always. I strongly recommend it however there is a likely chance that there are more incoming students requesting buddies than there are buddies available simply because the incoming group is much bigger. Give it a shot and make us work ;)
After having used the standard domain of wordpress.com I decided to upgrade my account and get a direct domain. My main domain is now myesademba.com and not myesademba.wordpress.com anymore (this domain is redirected to myesademba.com still). For you nothing changes except that you can access the blog more easily now.
